Despite the uncertainty that surrounds our world, we can find comfort in God, who is able to offer us solace during turbulent times.
We live in an unpredictable world, which leads to feelings of fear, worry, and panic. The circumstances we face are uncommon to what we are used to.
There is a lack of trust in business, governments, and individuals who have pledged to uphold their nation's principles.
So many stories are being told making it hard to decipher fact from fiction as conspiracy theories are being told to confuse people and distract us from the truth. And artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology are shaping our way of living and influencing our way of life.
Technology has changed the way we communicate. It influences our lifestyle; from the way we travel, eat, gather information, and seek medical care. Also, life has become quick, fast, and convenient.
However, the very thing designed to make our lives easier has made us susceptible to unwelcome intrusions.
We are confronted with other threats like viruses that are diverse making it hard to classify them or relate them to a source. But fighting unseen forces that put us at a disadvantage is not new (Ephesians 6:12). What we are experiencing has happened before and what we are seeing may be a prelude to what will be our future's norm.
We may never get the truth to an outbreak like the coronavirus. For the most part, we are left with speculations and little facts.
Nevertheless, the book of Revelation's speaks about pestilence and plaques that will happen. And throughout the Bible, it warns us that grim times will come.
It seems as if we don’t have control over what is happening and will happen in this world. Unless you are in a position of power and influence, you have little to no authority in decision making. It can be scary to not have much control over what happens in your life.
The Bible talks about why we are going through the unexpected crises we are facing. In John 10:10 it says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy."
The thief is our adversary, Satan, and what makes him effective is he is driven by a sadistic hate for humankind. His hate has propelled him to use and influence people to do things that have caused negative consequences for humanity. Because of what we are doing and have done, we are experiencing the aftermath.
"The earth suffers for the sins of its people, for they have twisted God's instructions, violated his laws, and broken his everlasting covenant."
—Isaiah 24:5 (NLT)
Be encouraged, we have help
The Bible cautions us about the events that will occur in the present and future. Matthew 24:6 ESV states, "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet."
God assures us that with Him we have peace. In life we may have many trials and sorrows, but we are encouraged to cheer up, because He has overcome the world (John 16:33). Also, He will take care of us when we are in need (Philippians 4:19).
Even if it's a plague, when you connect with God you have His healing abilities within. Instead of being harmed you can be healed from any plague or disease (Mark 16:18). Like He's done for us in the past, He will not allow us to be subjected to any of the harmful diseases or illnesses of this world (Deuteronomy 7:15).
We are in control
Having a relationship with God puts you in a position of safety (2 Timothy 1:7). And when you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, you are now in a position of authority; not because of you, but because of Him.
When Jesus rose from death, He was seated at the right hand of God the Father and "right hand" signifies a position of authority. We have an inherence and a right to receive those things that were inherited to Jesus because we have become heirs of God the Father and co-heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:17).
We are His beneficiaries and one of our rights is having authority over conditions and situations like diseases, viruses, and catastrophes.
Whenever we speak and declare something in Jesus's name it becomes law. It’s like being a king, and whatever the king says becomes law. And according to Scripture we are kings while God is the Supreme King (Revelation 1:6, 17:14).
It's like when you ask someone to do something for you and you tell them to tell the person "Tell them I sent you." This is done so the recipient knows the request is coming from you as if you're asking them yourself.
Similar to how a king makes a decree, and it becomes mandate. When we speak with faith in accordance with God’s Word, in the Name of Jesus, it too becomes mandate.
The centurion in Matthew 8:8-9 understood this well. "The centurion responded, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and another, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits."
— Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
When we speak into our lives and circumstances what God says, the angels listen and act quickly to bring about the request. They act right away when they hear God's Words spoken (Psalms 103:20).
In Biblical times a king's name was used as a representation of the king. An official messenger might deliver a message in the name of the king, and this meant that while he's delivering the message in the king's place, he has the king's authority, and you must listen as if it was the king himself speaking to you. It requiring the same respect and attention as if the king was personally addressing you.
Jesus has the most exalted name ever to exist and will exist; and when you act on Jesus' name, you receive Jesus' status to command things in your life to be the way it should be.
While everyone is in a state of fear and panic, you can find peace and security in His safety, as His Word promises.
Rest in God's peace
Peace is something you don't have to go get or work for, it is something that is given to you. John 14:27 says, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
Peace is here for those who have a relationship with God and is available to those who decides to live in it. Simply trust God by holding onto His words and refuse to change or waver.
"Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you." (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
We will have many trials, sorrows, grief, problems, and more, but be encouraged because Jesus has already overcome our worldly issues and has become our solution. John 16:33 says, "I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world.”
Jesus defeated the conflicts and struggles we experience and when you abide in Him, you will find comfort.
