Not all opportunities are good!

Updated: Sep 17

This blog is about the dangers of saying yes to every opportunity. While it may seem like a positive trait to be open to new experiences and challenges, saying no to some could be the best decision you make.

wrong opportunities

What do you do, when you realize that everything you've been doing is not aligned with God's will. Do you continue or let go? The enemy will present an opportunity that seems extremely good. Even Godly, and the opportunity will have no hint of deception.

Most of us quickly take advantage of a new opportunity when it looks good. We either don’t take the time to fully evaluate it or if we do, we are not able to see the hidden scheme to thwart our purpose and misdirect us. So, we begin to embark on the opportunity.

As we progress, things begin to thrive, and everything appears to be going well until you are fully immersed in your success; this is when the adversary places you in a difficult position. A position that is challenging to escape from.

At this juncture, you are faced with a crucial decision: whether to follow God's will or persist in your current path. At this point you have heard encouraging statements, risen to a level of success, stardom, and popularity making it extremely hard to stop. However, you realize what you have been doing is not in God's will and now you must make a choice between persevering or relinquishing your pursuits.

Ephesians 6:11 warns us about putting on the full protection of God so that we can stand up against the devil's tricks, because his goal is to kill, steal, and destroy you through deception. The only purpose of our enemy is to steal, kill, and destroy us in every aspect of life (John 10:10).

He deceives you by tempting you with what you see. He shows you the attractiveness of the opportunity while hiding the destruction that awaits you. Once what you see starts to appeal to your senses, it gets into your mind and emotions (Matthew 4:8, Luke 4:1-13). His cunningness has convinced you to believe that what he is saying is true and real.

But it is only when you know the truth can you see deception. Once deception gets rooted in your heart, then Satan has the power to influence you to do whatever he pleases. Therefore, we must obey God rather than people, our feelings, or the desire to hold onto something that's not in alignment with what God wants (Acts 5:29).

To protect ourselves from getting into a situation like this we must allow God to guide and lead us throughout life so that we are protected from being deceived (Psalm 37:23-24). Before you do anything ask God if this is the right thing to do and patiently wait for his response. When you do this, God can reveal to you why an opportunity isn’t right and show you other opportunities that are better and in agreement with his will for your life.

When God leads you in a particular direction but things don't happen as expected, frustration may lead you to doubt if it was the right decision. But God is the one who guides our journey and directs our steps in life, and whatever direction we take with him will lead to success (Psalm 37:23).

Time does not matter, what he says must happen—it will get done. Just have faith. Faith relies upon the work of someone else. In this case it’s relying on God's workings in your life.

God knows what's going to happen in the future at a particular time and where you need to be when it happens. That timing is what we must trust and have patience for.

God can see your entire life and why we should listen to him concerning our life. He sees the traps that have been placed before you, and he knows how compelling the enemy is.

Every choice has a consequence attached to it and if you want to always make the right choice consult God before doing anything which allows him to protect you from the traps of the enemy.

A call for salvation

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, His spirit will come to live inside you. This is one of the greatest blessings of salvation. You don't have to go through someone else to get to God, and He will live in your heart where you and Him become one and have a relationship.

All you have to do is make the choice of salvation by repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus into your life by confessing that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that He came from Heaven to die for your sins (Romans 10:9).

Here's a prayer you can repeat:

"Jesus, I confess that you are Lord, and I believe you died and was risen for my sins. I repent and ask for forgiveness of my sins, and I accept you as my personal Lord and Savior. Come into my heart and remove my sins. Thank you for forgiving me and making me into a new person in Jesus' name, Amen."

Once you have done this, please pray and ask God to guide you to a ministry where you can grow and start living the abundant life Jesus promised and died for.
